Monday
 
Lunch/comida provided
8:45 am – Attendees are picked up in Pátzcuaro and driven to the MA women’s center in the community of Eronga.
 
Scheduled Events
 
  • Welcome, introductions and tour of Mujeres Aliadas facility/school
  • Presentation on MA’s holistic, community-based model of midwifery and women’s rights
  • Discussion where attendees and MA staff and students have the opportunity to share knowledge and experience
 
3:00 pm – Welcome meal in local restaurant.
 
Breaks/beverages/snacks provided during each day.
 
5:30 pm – Back in Pátzcuaro
Tuesday
 
Lunch/comida provided
8:45 am – Attendees are picked up in Pátzcuaro and driven to the MA women’s center in the community of Eronga.
 
Scheduled Events
 
  • Watch film: “Birth of a New Consciousness” followed by a discussion on women’s rights and MA’s philosophy.
  • Workshop: The making and use of herbs and discussion of cultural practices surrounding birth. Hosted by a traditional midwife.
 
3:30 pm – Back in Pátzcuaro
Wednesday
 
Lunch/comida provided
8:45am – Attendees are picked up in Pátzcuaro and driven to the indigenous community of Sevina.
 
Scheduled Events
 
  • Visit to an indigenous community to observe a clinical session and a sexual and reproductive health presentation,  There will be opportunities to talk with clinic staff.
  • Drive to the indigenous community of Cheran to meet with local women and have comida at a local restaurant.
 
5:00 pm – Back in Pátzcuaro
Thursday
 
Lunch/comida provided
8:45 am – Attendees are picked up in Pátzcuaro and taken on a boat ride to the indigenous island of La Pacanda.
 
Scheduled Events
 
  • Visit the local secondary school to observe a Health Fair where information is provided to students on themes such as:  Sexual and Reproductive Rights; Contraception; Sexuality; and Pregnancy and Birth.
  • Walking tour of the island.
  • Return to the mainland through the village of Ucazanastacua and tour the ancient Purépecha capital of Tzintzuntzan with lunch at a local restaurant, a visit to local artisans and, if time, a tour of the pyramids.
 
5:00 pm – Back in Pátzcuaro
Friday
 
Lunch/comida provided
8:45 am – Attendees are picked up in Pátzcuaro and driven to the MA women’s center in the community of Eronga.
 
Scheduled Events
 
  • Workshop:  The use of the rebozo during labor and the postpartum massage.
  • Traditional indigenous midwives come to MA for a cultural and educational interchange. The midwives will talk about the history and use of herbal remedies, ‘volteada’ (spinning the baby), ‘caida de mollera’ (treatment for babies), postpartum care, etc.
 
3:00 pm – Farewell meal – Social gathering at MA with everyone. Food and music provided.
 
6:00 pm – Back in Pátzcuaro
